Kingston Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Kingston’s assessors post the Department of Revenue’s guides and no amount, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 for a veteran rated 10 percent or more, $750 to $1,500 under 22A to 22C, $1,000 for a 100 percent rating, and full exemption under 22D and 22F. It also runs a veterans’ tax work-off worth up to $1,000.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Kingston.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Kingston grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Tax Exemptions page posts the Department of Revenue’s taxpayer guides and the state’s application forms, and prints no amount of the town’s own, so the figures here are the statute’s; no clause 22I or 22J acceptance was found on the town’s site or in its posted warrant material. The town’s Veteran’s Tax Work-Off Abatement Program page records town meeting’s May 14, 2022 acceptance of G.L. c. 59, s. 5N and gives an abatement of up to $1,000 for the program year. The Veteran Services page names Sara Lansing the Veterans Agent, with hours split between Town House and the Duxbury Free Library (781-585-0515, extension 6203), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer. The town serves from kingstonma.gov; its old kingstonmass.org answers a Cloudflare challenge that does not clear. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Kingston Veteran Services: Sara Lansing, Veterans Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
