Kings County Assessor: Disabled Veterans' Exemption

The Kings County Assessor's FAQ describes the exemption as up to $150,000 for a veteran "rated 100% disabled, blind, or a paraplegic", the statute's old base figure and a narrower test than the law, which also takes unemployability and the loss of two limbs. File by the deadlines on its calendar; late claims close on December 10.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's; the California entry gives the amounts, the income limit and Senate Bill 296's larger exemption from the January 1, 2027 lien date. The Kings County Assessor (559-852-2486) decides claims in the county. What the Assessor says. "A veteran who is rated 100% disabled, blind, or a paraplegic due to a service-connected disability incurred while in the armed forces (or the unmarried surviving spouse of such veteran) may be eligible for an exemption of up to $150,000 off the assessed value of their home. An application must be filed with the Assessor's Office to determine eligibility for this program." Where the page is out of date and narrower than the law. $150,000 is the statute's base figure for the low-income exemption; indexed for 2026 the amounts are $180,671, or $271,009 under an $81,131 household income. Revenue and Taxation Code section 205.5 also qualifies a veteran compensated at the 100% rate for unemployability and a veteran who has lost the use of two or more limbs, which is wider than paraplegia. Neither the FAQ nor the calendar mentions section 205.5.1, which from the 2027 lien date exempts half of the first $1,000,000 of value, or all of it under the income limit. When. The Assessor's important dates list the timely filing date for veterans' and disabled veterans' claims and, at the first-instalment date, the "Last day to file late Homeowners, Veterans, and Disabled Veterans affidavit and claim for exemption with assessor", after which no claim is accepted for the current year.
