Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Section 74-33 of the county code (as amended through the Ordinance of May 3, 2010) sets the fee: "$25.00 per annum" on each motorcycle, motor scooter or vehicle of like design and "$30.00 per annum" on each other motor vehicle, "due and payable on or before December 5th of the taxable year". Section 74-41 lets a fee transfer to a replacement vehicle. Section 74-34, "Exemptions", directs the Commissioner of the Revenue to waive the fee in three cases: (a) nonresident armed-forces personnel registered in Virginia and residing temporarily in the county; (b) "one motor vehicle license fee annually for one motor vehicle owned and used primarily by or for a veteran of the armed forces of the United States or the Virginia National Guard who has been rated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs or its successor agency pursuant to federal law with a 100 percent service connected, permanent and total disability and whose application for the property tax exemption pursuant to Subdivision (a)(8) of Article X, Section 6 of the Constitution of Virginia... has been accepted" (Ordinance No. 09-19, August 26, 2019); and (c) one fee for each active volunteer fire or rescue member certified by their chief before March 1. A vehicle carrying DMV disabled veteran plates is in any case outside a 46.2-752 fee by section 46.2-755(B).
