Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

King William applies the statewide one-vehicle exemption through the Commissioner of the Revenue: one motor vehicle owned and used primarily by or for a veteran rated 100% service-connected, permanent and total is exempt. The county's pages publish no separate vehicle-exemption form or rule, so the state entries govern and the office at 804-769-4225 is the route. The CY 2026 tangible personal property rate is $3.50 combined - $2.00 school fund plus $1.50 general fund under Ordinance 10-26 (May 11, 2026, 3-2) - with machinery and tools at $2.25 combined ($1.25 + $0.90) and aircraft at $1.30. Town of West Point owners pay the general-fund rates only: $1.50 on personal property (down $0.15), $0.90 on machinery and tools (down $0.10). The vehicle license fee is billed with the taxes and falls due December 5 (section 74-33(c)). The state's car-tax relief applies to the first $20,000 of a qualifying vehicle's value.
