Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

In King William County the Commissioner of the Revenue, Karena L. Funkhouser (term expiring December 31, 2027), at 180 Horse Landing Road, P.O. Box 217, King William (804-769-4225, alternate 804-769-4942, [email protected]), takes the statewide disabled-veteran real estate exemption; her page lists "Disabled Veteran's Tax Exemptions" among the programs the office administers, alongside "Tax Relief for the Elderly or Disabled". The county publishes no separate disabled-veteran page, so the state entries govern the documentation. King William is a split-levy county. Ordinance 10-26, read into the record at the May 11, 2026 public hearing and adopted 3-2 (Supervisors Catlett and Robinson no), sets the CY 2026 combined levies "for property owners within the King William County School Division": "Real Estate $0.31 [school] + $0.305 [general] = $0.615", with mobile homes at the same $0.615. "For property owners within the Town of West Point" only the general-fund levy applies, at $0.305, unchanged. A mines-and-minerals and public-service-real-estate notice had been published incorrectly, was struck from the May 4 special meeting, re-advertised and heard on May 26. Real estate taxes are paid in semiannual installments due June 25 and December 5 (section 70-42 of the code). A veteran who is permanently and totally disabled but does not meet this VA test can use the county's elderly and disabled relief instead.

GateRule

Permanent and total on the 100% pathThe 100% rating has to be permanent and total. A 100% rating VA has not made permanent does not meet this path.

Permanent and total on the unemployability pathIndividual unemployability qualifies on this path only when VA has rated the disability permanent and total.
