The office. The Kimball County Veterans Service Office is at 114 East 3rd Street, Suite 2, in the Kimball County Courthouse, Kimball, NE 69145, phone (308) 235-3141, [email protected], open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed noon to 1:00 (the State's directory, updated October 26, 2026). The directory lists Matthew Meyers, Scotts Bluff County's Veterans Service Officer, as the officer, with administrative assistant Darcee Wheeland ([email protected]), whom the Board's October 20, 2026 agenda calls the County Veterans Service Office Program Coordinator. The county's page gives the office's mission: "To support all Kimball County Veterans and their families. To assist Veterans and their families in obtaining the local, state and federal benefits they are entitled to under law. To spotlight the accomplishments of Kimball County Veterans in service and in the community." Forms and brochures are at the office; the page posts the office's brochures on the State's benefits, the State's Nebraska Veterans Aid and federal benefits, and links its Facebook page, facebook.com/kimballcountyvets. The officer by contract. Kimball County's filed 2025-2026 budget lists an agreement among the County of Scottsbluff, the County of Kimball, both veterans service committees and Mr. Meyers, from July 1, 2024 and extendable, to "permit the Scottsbluff County Veterans Service Officer to also serve as the County Veterans Service Officer for Kimball County"; Scotts Bluff County's Board approved an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with Kimball County again on August 3, 2026 (see the Scotts Bluff County office entry). The money. The office's budget (0100-803) spent $52,917.82 in 2023-2024 and $62,035.46 in 2024-2025, and the 2025-2026 budget the Board adopted on September 16, 2025 gives it $70,248: the full-time assistant's $46,976 in wages, $14,172 for "Contract - VSO Services (Scottsbluff County)" ($6,432.18 in 2023-2024 and $12,345.56 in 2024-2025), $500 for honor guard services, $950 for grave markers and flags, and travel, training and dues. The Board's year. The county posts no minutes. On its October 20, 2026 agenda Ms. Wheeland was to update the Board on the office and on arrangements for a county veteran to raise and lower the flag on Veterans Day. The County Clerk's FAQ says a DD-214 "should be recorded in the Clerk's Office as well as the Veteran Service Office", and the Veterans Services page says the Clerk records it (see the Nebraska entry on the Discharge Record).
