What the fund holds and pays. Kimball County's filed 2025-2026 budget's Veteran's Aid fund (1900) held $3,698.11 on July 1, 2023 and paid nothing in 2023-2024; in 2024-2025 it paid $475.00 for rent, fuel and lodging and $2,500.00 of miscellaneous costs, leaving $723.92 on July 1, 2025. The county levies nothing for the fund. For 2025-2026 the Board moves $2,500 into it from the general fund and budgets $300 for rent, fuel and lodging, $74 for medical and hospital costs and $2,500 miscellaneous, with a $350 reserve. The petty cash fund. The budget's list of petty cash funds includes one set up on July 2, 2024: "$2,500.00--Kimball County Veterans' Aid to be used to make timely expenditures of aid to veterans", the same amount as the 2024-2025 miscellaneous spending. Who qualifies. Kimball County posts no aid text of its own; its Veterans Services page posts the State's Nebraska Veterans Aid brochure. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (308) 235-3141 (see that entry); see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
