Killingly Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Killingly’s counter handout gives the statutory amounts: $1,000 for wartime service, $2,000 to $3,500 by disability rating, and the doubled additional exemption for income-qualified veterans, applied for February 1 through October 1.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Killingly.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s counter handout for veterans and servicepersons sets the veteran’s exemption at $1,000 of assessed value for a Connecticut resident with at least 90 days of wartime service, on proof of service filed with the town clerk. A veteran with a VA rating of at least 10 percent receives $2,000 for a 10 to 25 percent rating, $2,500 for 26 to 50 percent, $3,000 for 51 to 75 percent and $3,500 for 76 to 100 percent or age 65 plus, the 12-81(20) schedule. For the additional exemption the handout prints “no application” and “with application” amounts: $2,000 rather than $1,000 for wartime service, $4,000 rather than $2,000 for a 10 to 25 percent rating, and so on to $7,000 for a 76 to 100 percent rating or a veteran rated and 65 plus. That is the state additional exemption of 12-81g(a), twice the base for income-qualified veterans, applied for February 1 through October 1 of the grand list year and reapproved every two years. The handout also describes the active-duty motor vehicle exemption, one passenger vehicle for a Connecticut resident serviceperson, and the federal Serviceperson’s Civil Relief Act exemption for a serviceperson whose home of record is another state. Killingly offered no municipal option in OLR’s 2023 survey, answering no to every one.

Amounts above the base turn on rating and income. The rating filter does not hide this entry.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
