Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The officer. Keya Paha County's Veterans Services page lists Brown County's Veterans Service Officer, Jake Graff, at 148 West 4th Street, Ainsworth, (402) 387-0233 (see the Brown County office entry, which also serves Keya Paha County). Its County Benefits page lists county veterans aid, a bronze grave flag holder, registration of DD-214s, homestead help, grave registration with a Presidential Memorial Certificate, and benefits counselling; the County Clerk records a DD 214 brought to the office. What the page says. Keya Paha County's County Benefits page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items, applied for through the County Service Office, where the veteran "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the fund holds and pays. Keya Paha County's filed 2025-2026 budget's Veterans Aid Fund (1900) held $1,480.86 on July 1, 2023, July 1, 2024 and July 1, 2025, with no receipts and no levy, and paid nothing in either year; the general fund made no transfer to it. The 2025-2026 budget offers the whole $1,480.86 as miscellaneous aid, as the 2024-2025 budget did, and no claim on the fund appears in the Board's minutes of January 2025 to August 2026. How to apply. Through the Brown County office, (402) 387-0233, or ask the County Clerk in Springview, (402) 497-3791. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
