The CAD's own table. The Kendall County Appraisal District's "Adopted Tax Rates and Exemptions" page (118 Market Avenue, Boerne; 830-249-8012) prints the Tax Code 11.22 disabled-veteran amounts as the rating tiers and the special cases:
- "Disability rating - 10 to 29 percent: $5,000"
- "Disability rating - 30 to 49 percent: $7,500"
- "Disability rating - 50 to 69 percent: $10,000"
- "Disability rating - 70 percent and up: $12,000"
- "Disability rating of not less than 10 percent and is age 65 or older: $12,000"
- "Disability veteran whose disability consists of the loss of use of one or more limbs, total blindness in one or both eyes or paraplegia: $12,000"
- "Spouse and children of armed service who dies on active duty: $5,000"
The page's eligibility note: "In order to qualify for the Disabled Veteran exemption, you must be a resident of the State of Texas and have at least a 10% service connected disability. This exemption may be applied to only property in the State, but does not need to be the residence homestead." That is Tax Code 11.22's own scope; the page's tier list matches the statute's figures. The 100 percent routes (section 11.131's full homestead exemption for a 100 percent disabled veteran and section 11.132's donated specially adapted housing) are the State entries' to carry - the CAD page's tiers stop at $12,000 and name neither.
The freezes. "Some jurisdictions offer tax 'freezes' on properties which qualify for the over-65 or disability exemptions. These jurisdictions are, The City of Boerne, Boerne ISD, Comfort ISD, and Kendall County. Taxes are limited to the amount paid on the homestead in the qualifying year plus the value of any additions made to the property after that date." A veteran claiming the over-65 route (rating of not less than 10 percent at 65 or older) freezes in those four units. Where and when: the CAD's appraisal and operations run Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., tax collection 8:00 to 4:00.
