Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county lists. The Veterans Service Officer's duties include "Emergency Financial Assistance", the county fund under section 80-102 (see the Nebraska entry for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund). The county's page prints no eligibility test of its own; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the statute reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. What the fund holds. Fund 1900, the Veterans Aid Fund, levies no tax and lives on interest: it held $63,763.24 on July 1, 2023, paid nothing in 2023-2024, paid $800.00 in 2024-2025 and held $67,645.44 on July 1, 2025. The filed 2025-2026 budget sets $30,476.14 for assistance and keeps $38,170.00 as a cash reserve. The Board's petty cash resolutions (2025-64 of August 4, 2025 and 26-056 of August 10, 2026) keep a Veteran's Aid petty cash fund of $4,200.00. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (308) 284-7776.
