Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county spends. Kearney County keeps no Veterans Aid fund among its budget funds. The Veterans Service Office budget carries a "Vets Aid Costs" line of $500.00, spent in full in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 and adopted again for 2025-2026, and the claims show where it goes: a $500.00 transfer to the "Veterans Aid Fund" on June 3, 2025 and to the "KC Vets Aid Fund" on June 16, 2026. What that account holds and pays out is not in any record the county posts. How to apply. The county posts no aid page or application; apply through the Veterans Service Office, 308-832-1747 (see that entry). Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
