Call 630-232-3550.
The Veterans Assistance Commission of Kane County is the county's commission under the Military Veterans Assistance Act; see the Illinois entry on Veterans Assistance Commissions. Office: Kane County Government Center, 719 South Batavia Avenue, Building A, Geneva (630-232-3550 or 3551), 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., by appointment only. Superintendent Jacob A. Zimmerman. All five staff are veterans.
Claims. Most of the work is VA claims: in fiscal 2025 the Commission completed 349 intents to file and its clients received $9.73 million in new VA payments, a record, plus $1.25 million in new VA health care. It also files appeals (supplemental claims, higher-level reviews and Board appeals) and helps with State benefits such as the Illinois Veterans Grant and the war bonuses.
Financial assistance. The Veterans Assistance Program for indigent veterans pays rent and utilities directly to the landlord or utility, and food and personal needs by vouchers redeemable at Aldi, not for alcohol, up to a cap that depends on family size. It is small: the Commission helped seven applicants in fiscal 2025, and refers others it cannot help. The Commission does not publish its eligibility rules or application; ask the office for an application. Its delegates were told on March 23, 2026 that the financial assistance threshold changed on December 1, 2025.
Rides. See the Ride in Kane entry for the free rides to VA clinics and the Veterans Treatment Court.
