From June 1, 2023, veterans over 60 "not covered by health or service benefits" can access hearing, dental and vision services at the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department. The Senior Veteran Support Program is a partnership between the department's Veterans Service Office and its Area Agency on Aging Division, paid with Senior Millage funding: the Area Agency on Aging provides the VSO $500,000 a year to connect the county's senior veterans to the programme. The county's justification: from April 2022 to March 2023, 64 percent of VSO clients were over 60, and assistance requests had risen nearly 800 percent since 2019. How it sits next to the veterans millage. The VSO also runs a dental programme of its own, funded from the veterans service millage. In April 2026 the Area Agency on Aging started a separate senior dental programme and its introduction letter to providers led some to believe the KCVSO dental programme had been discontinued; the AAA sent a clarifying letter confirming that both run. A veteran should ask the VSO which programme fits, 269-373-5361.
