Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Josephine County says of its own office that it was the first in Oregon: the county established a Veteran Service Office in 1944, "determined to assist returning World War II veterans with their GI benefits." The function today: "Veteran Service Officers counsel, advise and assist veterans and their dependents in obtaining benefits provided for them by county, state and federal law. These representatives act as advocates and case managers for veterans in need of such services." The page adds the warning every county VSO office gives - the laws pertaining to veterans' benefits are complex, and personal assistance from the local veteran service officer is recommended for navigating the claim - and notes that survivors and dependents may also be entitled to benefits. Contact. Phone (541) 474-5221, fax (541) 474-5105; the county's offices run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the county seat address is 500 NW 6th St., Grants Pass, Oregon 97526.
