Jones County (Mississippi) Tax Assessor-Collector: Homestead Exemptions, including the Disabled Veteran Routes

The Jones County Tax Assessor-Collector, Tina Gatlin-Byrd, takes homestead exemption applications through its Homestead Department in Ellisville (601-477-3253) and Laurel (601-428-3100), including the State's full exemption for a 100% service-connected disabled veteran; the county's page describes the department but not the veteran exemptions, which rest on the Mississippi entries.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's: a veteran with a service-connected total disability, and the unremarried surviving spouse, pay no ad valorem tax on the homestead (Sections 27-33-67 and 27-33-75), and an honorably discharged veteran of 90 or older is exempt too, which House Bill 420 of 2026 lowers to 85 for claims made in 2027; see the Mississippi entries. What the county's page says. The Tax Assessor/Collector page names Tina Gatlin-Byrd, Tax Assessor-Collector ([email protected]), and describes a "Homestead Department: Receiving, processing, and verifying homestead exemption applications." It publishes no exemption text of its own - no veteran or disability categories - so the State's rules apply as the Mississippi entries carry them: file with the VA proof, and ask the Homestead Department about the 90-and-over veteran route.
