Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The rules are the State's; see the Washington entry on RCW 73.04.030. The county's part: the Auditor's Recording division lists "Military Discharge (DD-214)" among the "Types of Documents Recorded" it keeps - "Deeds and Mortgages (Real Estate Documents), Liens and Lien Releases, Military Discharge (DD-214), Name Changes, Surveys and Plats" - with documents recorded from 1982 to the present indexed and imaged. Recording a discharge costs nothing, and the record is confidential: a copy goes only to the veteran or the people the statute allows, with ID. Where and who. The Auditor is Brenda Huntingford; the Auditor's Office sits in the courthouse at 1820 Jefferson Street, Port Townsend (mail P.O. Box 1220, Port Townsend, WA 98368), its licensing and recording window open 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The recording fee schedule and document requirements pages carry the general recording rules; no discharge line appears on the fee schedule because the statute sets none.
