Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county spends. Jefferson County keeps no separate veterans aid fund. Its general fund carries the aid as function 0100-802 Veterans Aid, one line for provisions, clothing and client needs: $11,685.55 paid in 2024-2025, and $6,167.74 in 2025-2026 against $15,000.00 budgeted; the final 2026-2027 budget adopts $15,000.00 again. The line paid aid in both years the budget shows, and the budget's transfer line to a separate Veterans Aid fund stands at $0.00. How to apply. The county posts no aid page or application; apply through the Veterans Service Office, (402) 729-6839 (see that entry). Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
