Jeff Davis County Veteran Service Officer: A $10,000 Line, Jim Sullivan's Appointment on the Agenda; TexVet Names Hugh Scanlen

Jeff Davis County has no veterans page, but its Commissioners' Court took up appointing Jim Sullivan as Veteran's Service Officer on August 12, 2025, its monthly agendas since list a Veteran Service Officer report, and the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget approved September 29, 2026 keeps a $10,000 "Veteran Serv. Rep." line; TexVet names Hugh Scanlen, (512) 750-8455, and the County Judge's office in Fort Davis (432-426-3968) is the county's general contact.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county posts. Jeff Davis County's site has no veterans page and names no veterans service officer; its home page links the State's Veteran's Information Portal and a notice of the Texas Veterans Commission grants the county was awarded (see jeff-davis-tx-veterans-assistance-grants). The officer. The Commissioners' Court's August 12, 2025 agenda carries "Discuss and take desired action on appointing Jim Sullivan to the Jeff Davis County Veteran's Service Officer"; the county posts no minutes after June 2023, so the vote is unread. The first regular agenda of each month from January 13 to October 6, 2026 lists "Veteran Service Officer" among its reports. No page gives the officer's telephone, office or hours. How the county funds it. The Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget (October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027; the certificate records its approval on September 29, 2026) carries non-departmental line 010-409-647, "Veteran Serv. Rep.", at $10,000, the same as in the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget (approved August 26, 2025); the proposed budget shows no spending on the line through August 2026. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032). TexVet. TexVet's county list names Hugh Scanlen for Jeff Davis, at (512) 750-8455, [email protected]. No county page or agenda read names him. TexVet's "Jeff Davis" under Dimmit County is a different listing. Where no officer is available, the Texas Veterans Commission's claims counselors help any veteran free (see the Texas entry). County contacts. The County Judge's office, Judge Curtis Evans (executive assistant Sandra Chambers), 100 Court Avenue, Fort Davis, TX 79734 (mail to P.O. Box 2139); phone 432-426-3968, fax 432-426-2292; Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to noon. The County Clerk records discharges (see jeff-davis-tx-county-clerk-discharges).
