Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Jackson County Veterans Services Office provides assistance to military veterans and family members in obtaining their benefits. The county describes its workload by listing what the office assists with: additional dependents, appeals, burial benefits, discharge information, family member benefits, home loans, increased rating, medical benefits, notice of disagreement, overpayment waivers, and responses to VA correspondence that requires additional information or evidence. The office is at 4111 Amonette Street, Pascagoula, MS 39567-2420, mailing address P.O. Box 998, Pascagoula, MS 39567-0998, phone (228) 769-3075, fax (228) 696-6284, open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The veterans services officer is Chad Goff. Mississippi Veterans Affairs' county list shows the same address and phone. A note on the county's own numbers. The county's page says Jackson County is home to 15,000 military veterans and calls it the third-largest veteran population in the state. The Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey 1-year estimate counts 8,444 civilian veterans 18 and over in the county (MOE 1,447), which ranks it fourth among Mississippi counties. The county page does not name its source, and the figures plainly come from different counts; this entry does not rely on either number. A county veterans service officer under Section 35-3-3 must be certified annually by Mississippi Veterans Affairs. The office is free. Homestead and tags. Homestead applications are taken by the county tax assessor between January 1 and April 1 (the county lists April 1 as the homestead filing deadline and notes it is one of the seventeen Mississippi counties where the assessor and collector are separate offices); the one-dollar disabled veteran plates are issued by the tax collector under Section 27-19-53; and the chancery clerk records discharges without cost under Section 35-3-13.
