What the county posts. The Clerk-Recorder's page: "Imperial County has records of military discharge which were recorded in Imperial County. For all other military discharge records (DD-214), you must contact the county in which the record was recorded or contact the National Personnel Records Center. To obtain a copy of military discharge (DD-214) in person, complete the Application for Certified Copy of Military Discharge and present a government issued photo identification. If completing request by mail, complete the application and notarize the Certificate of Acknowledgment before mailing to our office." The application (revised October 2022, under Clerk/Recorder Chuck Storey). "Certified copies of a DD-214 may only be issued to authorized individuals (Government Code 6107 (b))." "An authorized person who requires the full social security number to receive benefits may obtain an unredacted copy of a DD-214 (Government Code 27303.5)"; otherwise the certified copy does not show the full number. Every applicant signs a sworn statement, and a state or local government representative on official business does not need the notarized statement by mail. Recording.
