Idaho Disabled Veteran State Parks Pass

A lifetime pass waiving the vehicle entrance fee for one vehicle and the campsite fee for one site at Idaho state parks, for an Idaho resident rated 100% permanent and total service-connected (compensation at 100% for unemployability does not qualify); cabins, yurts and lodges are excluded, reservation fees still apply, and camping is capped at 14 nights in 30 days.

Also called: state parks, disabled veteran pass, 100 percent, total and permanent, free camping, day use, 14 nights, IDPR.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation issues a lifetime Disabled Veteran Pass. Its application: "Day Use: Waives the Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee for one personal vehicle." "Camping: Waives the Usage Fees for one campsite per eligible veteran. This does not include cabins, yurts, or lodges. Reservation Fees still apply. 14-night limit in a 30 day period at any park." Who qualifies. All three of: "Be an Idaho Resident", "Have a Service-connected disability", and "Have an evaluation of 100% Permanent & Total". The form adds, "Being compensated at 100% does not qualify", so a veteran paid at the total rate for unemployability, or rated 100% without the permanent designation, is outside it. A veteran rated 70 or 90 percent is outside it too. How to apply. Email, drop off at a park or regional office, or mail the application with the VA's evaluation letter (the Boise VA Regional Office's public contact office issues it) to the Department, 5657 Warm Springs Avenue, Boise (PO Box 83720, Boise, ID 83720); (208) 334-4199 option 5, [email protected], also for lost or stolen passes. Camping reservations are made online, by phone or at the park, and the reservation fee is paid as usual. Federal lands are separate. The Interagency Access Pass is free and lifetime for a citizen with a permanent disability and covers national parks and federal recreation sites, much of Idaho's land; and the Military Lifetime Pass is free to veterans. Neither state nor federal pass covers the other's land.

Thresholds

Thresholds for Idaho Disabled Veteran State Parks Pass
GateRule
100% total and permanentThe pass requires a 100 percent total and permanent service-connected disability rating. That is a stricter bar than most state park passes in this catalog, and a veteran below it pays the ordinary day use and camping fees.
