Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county Recorder's own Military Discharges page is a one-page PDF: "The Huron County Recorder's Office will record an original or certified copy of a Veteran's military discharge as a free service for our Veterans." The recorder's menu carries it beside the Recording Guidelines and the document search ("Search for Recorded Documents", dts.huronrecorder.org, a PAX build). The statute. Ohio Revised Code 317.24(B)(1): "Upon request of any discharged member of the armed forces of the United States and presentation of the member's discharge, the county recorder shall record the discharge in a book to be furnished by the board of county commissioners for that purpose. There shall be no fee for the recording." Division (B)(2)(a) keeps the recorded discharge out of the public-records definition for 75 years (the State entry carries the statute and the authorized-party access); this is the county office that takes it - the free-service sentence is the Recorder's own text.
