Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Winnemucca's Veterans Park is Humboldt County's veteran memorial ground, and its hardware - "two tanks, one helicopter, and one cannon" - is what the Board's September 8, 2026 item calls the military displays. The item: "Consideration, discussion and possible approval for a request from the Vietnam Veterans Chapter in Winnemucca to clean and restore military displays at the Veterans Park. This project is funded through a grant from the Frank Offenhauser Foundation and Heart of the Mucc in the amount of $47,000.00 to pay for the restoration work on the displays including two tanks, one helicopter, and one cannon." The motion carried with Chairman Cerri and Commissioners Hill and Brooks voting aye (Commissioners Tipton and Evatz absent). Jacklyn Orr, the county's Economic Officer, appeared with Martin Avery, Jack Sherman and Deanna Eastman of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 744; the County Commission's own minutes record a commissioner's thanks "for caring and the efforts they have put into this project". The county's connection to the park is older than the grant: commissioner comment on August 17, 2026 records Giovanni Giordano appearing before the Commission "on his building of the Veteran Memorial Sign in 1992 or 93", and the Chapter 744 group had already "appeared before the Commission and offered public comment on their efforts to procure some funding to improve the" park. The restoration is theirs; the ground is the county's. The community layer around it. The Board's April 20, 2026 minutes record the county helping stage "the District Court Veterans Breakfast May 29, 2026 from 7 am to 12:00 pm" and the First Responders mental-wellness barbecue, and the June 1, 2026 minutes note "that the Veterans' Breakfast had a great turn out"; the March 2, 2026 minutes note Commissioner Brooks on "the request for counties to participate this fall in the Veteran's Green Light", the November county-lighting campaign for veterans. A veteran in Winnemucca finds the county engaged on all of these fronts.
