Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Hull grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The elected Board of Assessors’ page names Pamela Sinton-Coffman, Donna Sullivan, Richard Morris, Patricia Waddleton and Rochelle Terranova the members at Hull Town Hall, 253 Atlantic Avenue (781-925-2205), where Mackenzie MacCune is the Assistant Assessor. Its 2027 Personal Tax Exemptions chart prints $635 under clause 22 for a 10 per cent service-connected disability, a Purple Heart recipient or a Gold Star parent, $1,190 under 22A for the loss of a foot, hand or eye, $1,983 under 22B, $2,379 under 22C for specially adapted housing, $1,586 under 22E for a 100 per cent disability and a full exemption under 22F, applications due April 1, 2027. Each is the statute raised a half and raised by both years’ adjustments, what clause 22J at 50 per cent produces, the chart’s figures a dollar or so above what the Department’s 2.9 and 2.7 per cent adjustments compound to ($634.08 under clause 22). The chart names no acceptance and no vote was found on the town’s site, so the entry asks the assessors which option the town has accepted. The Veterans’ Services page names Paul Sordillo the Director of Veterans’ Services at 253 Atlantic Avenue (781-925-0305), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer and number, and counts chapter 115 applications, state annuities, the welcome-home bonus, burial assistance and the VA claims among what the office files. The town’s Municipal Veterans Assistance Fund page records Hull’s adoption of G.L. c. 60, § 3F, a fund of voluntary donations administered by the Veterans’ Service Officer with oversight from the town’s Veterans’ Council, the volunteer organization that page seats Paul Sordillo on ex officio and whose contact line is the agent’s extension at Town Hall (781-925-2000, extension 3822); the site names no post of its own. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Hull Veterans’ Services: Paul Sordillo, Director of Veterans’ Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
