What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. Who and when. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists Rebecca Fortenberry at 421 N. Main St., Nashville, AR 71852 (the courthouse address), (870) 845-9703, [email protected], Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Southwest Arkansas Radio reported that County Judge Brent Pinkerton "introduced Howard County's new Veterans Services Officer, Rebecca Fortenberry" when he spoke to the Nashville Rotary Club in July 2026. Her predecessor, John Hill of Dierks, took the post in September 2023, when the Nashville Leader reported that the office shared a building on the old Howard Memorial Hospital campus with the Emergency Service Coordinator; call before going in to ask which building she uses. Howard is in the Department's District 4, whose District Veterans Service Officer is Eric Siddons in the Fort Smith courthouse, (479) 966-5295. The County Judge is at 421 N. Main St., (870) 845-7501. The Quorum Court. The Court adopted the 2026 budget in December 2025; the radio's reports of that meeting and of every monthly meeting since name no veterans item, and the county posts no minutes or budget, so the office's appropriation is not published. The veterans court. None: the Ninth West Circuit's plan for 2026 says its only specialty docket is a drug court, and the Judiciary's veterans treatment court map does not shade Howard.
