Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Horry County's Veterans Affairs Office is the county veterans' affairs office every South Carolina county has under section 25-11-40; see the South Carolina entry on county veterans affairs officers. The State Department of Veterans Affairs' 2026 county evaluation called it "one of the most effective in the entire state". What it does. Claims for the benefits VA sponsors, advice and representation in VA appeals, VA health care enrolment, and help with discharge corrections and upgrades. It records DD-214s: "Veterans are encouraged to record their military discharges (DD-214) with the Veterans Affairs Office. The original is returned to the Veteran and certified copies can be made if needed." Discharges recorded in the past at the Horry County Courthouse are now kept there, with World War II roster books for South Carolina entrants. Copies go to the veteran, next of kin or a legal representative; the county's fee schedule charges $0.50 for a certified copy, the most section 30-15-60(A) allows. Where. 1949 Industrial Park Road, Suite 101, Conway 29526; (843) 915-5480; [email protected]; Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are required. Where the FAQ is narrower than the law. It says "Only Veterans that are rated as 100% Permanent and Total are eligible" for the property tax exemption; section 12-37-220(B)(1)(f) defines permanently and totally disabled as the inability to perform substantial gainful employment, which a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability meets; see the South Carolina entry on the exemption. It also says the licence designation needs a DD-214 showing an honorable discharge and "No other proof of service will be accepted"; section 56-1-140(B) also accepts a DD-214 showing general under honorable conditions, and an NGB Form 22 with twenty years of Guard service; see the South Carolina entry on the designation.
