Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

How the county pays aid. Holt County's 2025-2026 budget message says the "Veterans' Aid checking account" is limited to $5,000, and that "the Veteran's Committee has a $25,000 CD for disaster aid, invested by the County Treasurer, with interest credited to the Veterans' Aid Fund". Fund 1900, Veterans' Aid, levies no tax: it held $25,275.01 on July 1, 2023, took a $6,500.00 transfer in and paid $6,500.00 of aid costs in 2023-2024, paid nothing in 2024-2025, and held $27,443.34 on July 1, 2025, the whole of which the filed 2025-2026 budget sets for "Veterans' Aid Costs". The Board's claims lists name no aid payments, which go through the checking account. Who qualifies. The county's page prints no test. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) section 80-102 reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (402) 336-1200. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
