Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, which covers Hillsborough County, runs a Veterans Treatment Court under Florida Statutes section 394.47891; see the Florida entry. It offers individual treatment plans for veterans charged with crimes who struggle with substance use or mental health disorders. Entry. The veteran completes the court's application and, through the defense lawyer, sends it with supporting documents to the circuit's Administrative Office of the Courts; the Clerk then sets the case on the next enrollment docket, where the judge, with the team, decides eligibility and then admission. Length. There are four tracks by risk and need: Track 4, for low risk and low need, takes about six months, and Track 1 is structured for 14 months, longer with non-compliance. Treatment includes group and individual counselling, urine screening, support groups and medication management. Unpublished criteria. The court's page answers "Who is eligible?" with "Eligibility criteria can be found in Administrative Order TBD." Section 394.47891 lets the chief judge set the programme by administrative order and gives the chief judge and the state attorney sole say over dishonorably discharged veterans, so until that order is published a veteran cannot tell in advance whether the circuit takes a dishonorable discharge or which offenses it excludes. Ask the court's coordinator or the defense lawyer.
