Hernando County Property Appraiser: Veteran Exemptions
The Hernando County Property Appraiser takes exemption applications for the 2027 tax year until March 1, 2027, listing the $5,000 exemption on VA Letter #27-125, the combat-related discount for veterans 65 and older on DR-501DV, and the total and permanent exemption on VA Letter #27-333.
Also called: property appraiser, DR-501, DR-501DV, March 1, 196.24, 196.081, Letter 27-125, Letter 27-333, Brooksville.
The exemptions are the State's; the Florida entries explain them. The Hernando County Property Appraiser administers them from hernandocountypa-florida.us.
Filing. "Our office will accept exemption applications for the 2027 Tax Year until March 1, 2027. Applications submitted from March 2, 2026 through March 1, 2027 will be for the 2027 Tax Year."
What the Appraiser's other-exemptions page asks of veterans.
- "$5000 Service Connected Disability Exemption - Applicant must submit a letter (Letter # 27-125) from the Veterans Administration (stating the percentage of service-connected disability 10% or more)."
- "Combat Related Disability Tax Discount - Offers a property tax discount to veterans aged 65 or older with a combat-related disability. ... Submit form DR-501DV with supporting documents as noted on the form to our office."
- "Service-Connected Total and Permanent Disability Exemption - ...the applicant must provide a letter (Letter #27-333) from the Veteran's Administration as proof of service-connected total and permanent disability..."
- A disability exemption applicant may "provide a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or the Social Security Administration... on the Florida state DR-416 form".
Where the page is thinner than the law. The 65-plus discount equals the percentage of the disability that is combat-related; the page does not state it. Read the statute with the DR-501DV.
