For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.
Hennepin County Veterans Services is the county veterans service office every Minnesota county must have under section 197.60; see the Minnesota entry on county veterans service officers, which also explains why no one may charge for this help.
How to reach it. Complete the online intake form, email [email protected], or call 612-348-3300 and leave a voicemail with the veteran's name, phone number and city. The office assigns a representative by location, who calls back within three business days.
What it helps with. Service-connected disability compensation claims, including claims for military sexual trauma; the VA pension and survivors pension, with the housebound and Aid and Attendance allowances; VA health care enrollment; the homestead market value exclusion, whose rating the office certifies to the assessor each July; and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs' medical, dental and optical grants for veterans and dependents with low incomes. It refers veterans to chemical health assessment and to mental health crisis help, including the county's Cope mobile crisis team (612-596-1223).
Housing. The office works with veterans who are homeless or at risk with the VA's Community Resource and Referral Center and other partners. The County Board has funded that work through joint powers agreements with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, most recently on September 29, 2026 for up to $500,000 from July 2026 to June 2027, which keeps three grant-funded positions and adds a fourth, and in 2025 added a senior veterans' social worker for income problems.
It also recruits veterans as volunteer mentors for the Fourth District Veterans Court; see the entry on that court.
