Haverhill Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Haverhill publishes its veteran exemptions as a range, up to $822 for most claimants and up to $3,081 at most, roughly twice the statute raised by one year’s cost-of-living adjustment.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Haverhill.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Haverhill grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ tax exemptions page gives the clause 22 exemption as “Minimum Up to $822 (most exemptions) Maximum Up to $3,081”, and elsewhere says the veteran amounts range from $836 to $3,081; it names no fiscal year and no clause amounts. $822 and $3,081 are what the statute’s $400 and $1,500 become when raised by the fiscal 2027 clause 22I adjustment of 2.7 percent and doubled, but the page does not say so, and the vote was not found. Ask the assessors for the amount under each clause. The page asks for a rating of 10 percent or more, the VA certificate and the DD-214, and six months’ domicile before entering service or five consecutive years before filing, where the statute now says two. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Haverhill Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
