The record. The board's 2025 and 2026 minutes and agendas - 48 files downloaded from hartcountyga.gov's document store and read whole (the October 23, 2025 called budget meeting and the October 14, 2025 regular minutes are Word documents, converted and read) - carry one veteran action. The November 11, 2025 regular meeting's new business carried "b) Veterans Day Proclamation", with Chairman Sayer thanking "all Veterans for their service" and Commissioners Bennett, Teasley, Brown and Dorsey each recording thanks. The January 13, 2026 regular meeting took the next step: agenda item "13d Veterans Day Holiday Discussion - ADDED", added from the floor on Commissioner Dorsey's motion to amend, and then "Commissioner Teasley moved to recognize Veterans Day as a County Holiday for County Employees and add it to the holiday calendar. Commissioner Bennett provided a second. The motion carried 5-0." Commissioner Dorsey's July 28, 2026 report reminded the board that "Veterans Day will be observed as a county holiday beginning this year" - "the importance of notifying county employees." The year's other veteran items are the May 26, 2026 Memorial Day Service - the minutes recognizing "Commander Fulghum for coordinating the event, Alyssa Kilgore for singing the National Anthem, Dr. Brad Starnes of Cornerstone for delivering the message, and Marine Veteran Kevin Heaton for offering the prayer" - and Chairman Sayer's May 27, 2025 recognition of "veterans for their sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy in this Country." No benefit is known to have been adopted, narrowed or repealed.
The county's own organizations. Also provides assistance with GED exam fees. Transportation assistance for job interviews and medical appointments for Veterans and immediate family members" (P.O. Box 513, Hartwell).
