Hanson Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Hanson’s pages print no clause amounts and its site answers a Cloudflare challenge, so this entry gives the statute’s, read through the Internet Archive’s captures; the EOVS directory names its agent.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Hanson.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Hanson grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. www.hanson-ma.gov answers a Cloudflare challenge that does not clear to curl or to the automated browser, and townofhanson.com, the town’s domain of record, still serves a for-sale lander (issue #224), so the Board of Assessors and its Applications for Tax Exemptions page were read through the Internet Archive’s captures of February 23 and 24, 2025. The board’s page names Patricia O’Kane the chairperson (2026), Sue Shiels a member (2027) and Joshua C. Adams the clerk (2025), with Denice Alexander the Assessor/Appraiser, Keith Demers the Assistant Assessor and Anne Merlin the administrative assistant, at Town Hall, 542 Liberty Street (781-293-5259), and prints no clause amount, so the figures here are the statute’s; the Applications for Tax Exemptions page links the state’s forms and asks which documents to send without an amount of the town’s own. No veterans’ page of the town’s is captured: the Archive’s only capture of the site’s /veterans-agent path, from May 11, 2023, records a 410 Gone. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row names Terrence O’Keeffe the Veterans’ Agent at Town Hall, 542 Liberty Street (781-293-5644), the officer Hanover’s own page names its Veteran Service Officer, with an e-mail address at hanover-ma.gov, so this entry points at the directory and asks the town to confirm the office’s arrangement. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Hanson Veterans’ Agent: Terrence O’Keeffe (EOVS directory). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
