Hanover Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Hanover’s clause 22 page prints no amount of the town’s own - "Disabled Veteran Exemptions vary on severity of disability" - and asks the pre-HERO Act five years’ residence before entering service, so this entry gives the statute’s (read through the Internet Archive, the site’s Cloudflare checkbox looping); its Veterans’ Services is the town’s own, Terrence O’Keeffe the officer at the Council on Aging, whose senior-and-veteran work-off runs up to 125 hours at minimum wage.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Hanover.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Hanover grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. www.hanover-ma.gov serves a Cloudflare challenge whose checkbox loops back after every click, to curl and the automated browser alike, so its pages were read through the Internet Archive’s captures, the newest each path holds. The Board of Assessors’ page, captured June 30, 2026, seats Leslie Molyneaux the chair (term expires May 2027), Melsi Xhengo (May 2028) and Jason Factor (May 2029), at Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover Street, First Floor Advisory Room (781-826-5000, extension 1076), meeting usually the third Wednesday at 4 pm. The exemptions page’s Veterans (Clause 22) page, newest captured February 8, 2025, prints no amount of the town’s own - "Disabled Veteran Exemptions vary on severity of disability" - points at the Department of Revenue’s fact sheet and its Guide to Real Estate Tax Exemptions for Qualifying Veterans, and asks that "Veterans must have been domiciled in Massachusetts for 5 years prior to entry into the service", the pre-HERO Act test, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Veterans’ Services page, captured February 8, 2025 with the live site’s index naming the same staff, names Terrence O’Keeffe the Veteran Service Officer at 781-924-1913, extension 1107, the office at the Council on Aging, 665 Center Street, with clinicians Karen MacDonald, LICSW, and Jim Gambino, LADC II - the officer the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Hanover row lists at the Senior Center on "655 Center Street", the directory’s street number where the town’s page gives 665. The page describes the VSO’s federal claims work and the chapter 115 benefits to qualifying veterans and their families, runs the weekly Veterans Coffee Hour at the COA and links the town’s Veterans Memorial at B. Everett Hall Field; American Legion Josselyn-Cummings Post 149 sits at 104 King Street, the post the town’s Veterans Day notices name and whose own site is the post’s. The Council on Aging’s Senior and Veteran Tax Work-Off Program page, captured February 9, 2025, admits "residents aged 60 and over and veterans", offering 20 positions, each up to 125 hours at the current minimum wage credited against the real estate bill on an October-to-September year, with applications through the COA’s Tammy Murray (781-924-1913, extension 1102) - the page cites section 5K, the veterans’ arm the section 5N work-off it does not name; the town’s Taxation Aid Committee administers the Disabled and Elderly Fund created in 1999, the last-resort fund its page points veterans to after the assessing office, the COA and the Veterans’ Agent. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Hanover Veterans’ Services: Terrence O’Keeffe, Veteran Service Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
