Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

This is how Hanover County applies the statewide disabled-veteran real estate exemption. The Commissioner of the Revenue takes the application at any time of year, and once granted it does not need renewing unless the veteran moves. There is no income test. Hanover applies the exemption to the house and up to 10 acres, the same acreage as its relief for older and disabled owners, where the statewide baseline is one acre. The spouse has to be named on and sign the application, with a copy of the VA letter stating the 100% service-connected disability. A surviving spouse qualifies when the veteran died on or after January 1, 2011, the spouse has not remarried, and the property is the spouse's primary residence.
