Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. The Hamilton County Auditor takes it at 138 East Court Street, Cincinnati (homestead unit 513-946-4099; the office also takes applications by phone at 513-946-4000). File by December 31 with the "Veterans Enhanced Homestead Application" (DTE 105I), the VA letter showing a 100% service-connected rating or compensation at the 100% level for individual unemployability, and a DD-214. There is no income test. This year's deadline. House Bill 479, in force September 23, 2026, gives every home with a homestead exemption for tax year 2026, counted by the auditor on November 1, 2026, an equal one-time share of the State's Property Tax Relief Fund, taken off the first-half bill due in early 2027. The Auditor estimates $400 to $500 a home and asks new applicants to have complete applications in by Friday, October 16, 2026 so it can review them in time. A veteran newly rated 100% should file now rather than in December. Where the page narrows the statute. It asks for a DD-214 "showing that the applicant has been honorably discharged". Section 323.151(F) needs a discharge or release "under honorable conditions", which includes a general discharge, so a veteran with a general discharge qualifies and should cite the section. The local option. House Bill 96 let each board of county commissioners double every homestead credit at county expense (Revised Code 319.304). Hamilton County's commissioners declined to adopt it on October 30, 2025, after school districts warned of the cost.
