Hamilton Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Hamilton’s assessors post the Commonwealth’s own fact sheet and combined Form 96 with no amount of the town’s own, so this entry gives the statute’s; its veterans’ services are the Cape Ann district’s, Vionette (Vee) Chipperini the District Benefits Coordinator, from Gloucester, and its Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program is the seniors’ alone.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Hamilton.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Hamilton grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors elects Steve Ozahowski the chair (term expires April 2027), Joseph Shaktman the vice chair (April 2029) and Christopher Campbell (April 2028), with Bill Olson the Select Board liaison, at Town Hall, 577 Bay Road, South Hamilton (978-468-5574; P.O. Box 429), Jane Dooley the Director of Assessing and Kit Falcione the assessing clerk. The department’s Veteran Exemptions page posts the Department of Revenue’s Taxpayer’s Guide to Local Property Tax Exemptions for Veterans and the town’s application, the Commonwealth’s combined State Tax Form 96 for seniors, surviving spouses or minors, veterans and blind persons, and no amount of the town’s own and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J appears on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The town’s Veterans page describes the department charged under chapter 115 with providing services to veterans and their dependents - "your agent has been hired by you ... to provide information and assistance to any and all Veterans in the Towns of Hamilton, Gloucester, Manchester-By-The-Sea and Rockport" - and names Vionette (Vee) Chipperini (US Army) the Cape Ann Veterans Services District Benefits Coordinator at 12 Emerson Avenue, Gloucester (mailing ATTN: Veterans, 9 Dale Avenue; 978-325-5730), the office the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Hamilton row lists on the same number. The Council on Aging’s Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program admits residents over 60 alone, up to $1,875 at the minimum wage, about 125 hours on a December-to-November program year. The town’s Community Preservation Committee reports fund the American Legion building on School Street, Augustus Peabody Gardner Post 194’s, its heating and renovation projects appropriated at past town meetings. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Hamilton Veterans: Cape Ann Veterans Services, Vionette (Vee) Chipperini, District Benefits Coordinator. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
