The court. The Central Nebraska Veterans Treatment Court is one of Nebraska's problem-solving courts: a team of judge, prosecutor, defense counsel, coordinator, community supervision officer, law enforcement, treatment provider and Veterans Health Administration designs an individualized programme for each participant, verified by frequent alcohol and drug testing, close supervision and non-adversarial judicial review hearings, with home and field visits and trained volunteer veteran mentors. Its stated mission is "to honor and support justice-involved veterans through a rehabilitative program that integrates intensive supervision and treatment services." The Judicial Branch lists coordinator Angela Smith, (308) 379-5473, [email protected], and its problem-solving courts contacts page lists the court under both District 9 (Buffalo and Hall Counties) and District 10 (Adams and seven other counties). Which counties. The Judicial Branch announced the court on November 10, 2020, when Judges Stephen R. Illingworth of the Tenth Judicial District and Ryan C. Carson of the Ninth said it "will serve veterans from Adams, Buffalo, and Hall Counties", the tri-city area of Grand Island, Kearney and Hastings. The three counties renewed the interlocal agreement that maintains it in 2026: Buffalo County's Board approved the updated agreement with Hall County, Adams County and the Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation on February 24, 2026, and Adams County's Board approved it on April 7, 2026 after tabling it on March 17, when Adams County Veterans Service Director Chris Long presented it and the minutes record that the County Attorney had questions "as Adams County already has a veterans' treatment court in place". A veteran with a criminal case in the district court of Hall, Buffalo or Adams County can ask defense counsel, the prosecutor or the court about entry.
