Georgia's accountability courts, including veterans treatment courts, rest on Code section 15-1-17; see the Georgia entry. The Northeastern Judicial Circuit's Treatment Services runs Hall County's: "It is the mission of the Hall County Veterans Treatment Court to provide alternatives to incarceration for veterans of the Armed Services with misdemeanor and felony offenses by linking those individuals to local, community-based treatment resources with the goal of reducing recidivism".
Who it takes. "Both misdemeanor and felony offenses are accepted. The criminal offense must have a direct nexus to behaviors related to substance use or mental health disorders." A felony case may come in pre-plea, post-plea before or after sentence, or on a probation revocation; misdemeanour participants most often enter after sentence, as a condition of probation. Excluded: prior felony convictions other than a first possession; violent offences beyond those; pending felony charges elsewhere; sale of a controlled substance; and sex offences.
Who to call. Superior Court: Judge Jason J. Deal presides; coordinators Richard Bosten and Ariel Donaldson, 770-531-9173. "Referrals to the State Court Veterans Treatment Program with Presiding Judge B.E. Roberts III should be directed to Michele Groffices with Hall County Probation Services at 678-696-2443." The page posts the referral form and a DD-214 request form.
