Halifax Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Halifax’s own fiscal 2027 Exemption Handout prints the statutes doubled and raised by the fiscal 2027 adjustment of 2.7 per cent - $822 under clause 22, $1,541 under 22A, $2,568 under 22B, $3,081 under 22C and $2,054 under 22E, full under 22D and 22F - what clauses 22I and 22J at 100 per cent produce with a fiscal-2027 first application, no acceptance named, so its entry asks the assessors; its Veteran Services is the town’s own, Steve Littlefield the Director of Veterans Services, where the EOVS directory’s row gives a different phone.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Halifax.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Halifax grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors seats Dottie Lamoureux (term expires 2027), Robert Mullen (2028) and Holly Merry (2029), three-year elected terms, at Town Hall, 499 Plymouth Street, the assessors’ office on 781-293-1721. The department’s Real Estate Tax Exemption Page posts the town’s own "Exemption Handout for Website Fiscal Year 2027": the veterans’ clauses line by line - $822 under clause 22 for the 10-percent-plus service-related disability and the Purple Heart, $1,541 under 22A, $2,568 under 22B, $3,081 under 22C, full exemption under 22D and 22F, and $2,054 under 22E - the statutes doubled and raised by the fiscal 2027 adjustment of 2.7 per cent, what clauses 22I and 22J at 100 per cent produce with a fiscal-2027 first application, the whole-dollar rounding of the figures Milton’s page prints to the cent. No acceptance of clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½ appears on the site, so the entry asks the assessors for the vote behind the amounts. The handout asks that the veteran own and occupy the property as of July 1 and file by April 1, 2027, and prints the work-off row at 60 and over, up to $750 - the seniors’ program it is, no veterans’ work-off on the sheet. The town’s Veteran Services page names Steve Littlefield the Director of Veterans Services and Robert Mullen the Assistant Veterans Agent at Town Hall, First Floor, 499 Plymouth Street (781-293-1724, fax 781-294-7684), the VSO in the office Thursdays 2 to 5 pm and by appointment, where the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Halifax row lists him at the same address on (508) 946-1724, [email protected] - the directory’s phone where the town’s page gives its own. The page describes the department’s chapter 115 work - "Chapter 115: Assistance and Benefits" among VA claims for compensation and pension, health care, education, records retrieval and burial assistance and gravestones - and links the state’s Chapter 115 self-help guide and the Massachusetts Veterans’ Laws and Benefits booklet; the department says it assists more than 430 town veterans. The town’s June 2025 newsletter records the final Memorial Day parade with "Bruce Thomas (VFW Post Commander), Dave Walsh (VFW member), Joe Beneski (VFW member)", and the post’s own page records VFW Post 6258 meeting the second Thursday of each month at 7 pm at the Halifax Town Hall; the town’s 2026 news flash announced the new Veterans Memorial Garden behind the Town Hall and moved the parade into the November Veterans Day festivities. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Halifax Veteran Services: Steve Littlefield, Director of Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
