Haddam Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Haddam’s relief page prints the wartime exemption at $2,000 with an automatic additional exemption of half the entitlement, and the income-qualified additional at twice the entitlement, applied February 1 to October 1.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Haddam.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s tax relief page and its veterans’ exemptions brochure print the wartime exemption at $2,000 on a DD-214 filed by September 30, and the disability-rating groups 10 to 25, 26 to 50, 51 to 75, 76 to 100 percent and age 65 and over with amounts left to “contact the Assessor’s Office.” A qualified veteran is “automatically entitled to an additional exemption (non-income qualified) amount of half of the present exemption entitlement” - $1,000 on the $2,000 regular exemption. An Active Duty Exemptions section exempts one passenger vehicle that is out of state with the service person, on the application for a motor vehicle property tax exemption for Connecticut residents on active military duty stationed outside the state, filed not later than December 31st following the date the property tax is due. A “Federal Soldiers & Sailors Relief Act - Non-Resident” section provides for a non-resident service person, as a result of military orders, stationed in Connecticut on October 1st, to be exempt from personal property listed in the service person’s name, on an affidavit from the legal service officer, with annual filing required. The income-qualified additional veteran’s exemption doubles the exemption, with income limits determined by the state annually and proof of income required, applied February 1 to October 1. Haddam did not answer OLR’s 2023 survey.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
