Greenwich Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Greenwich’s credits and benefits page gives wartime veterans the exemption on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before October 1, a disabled veterans’ exemption on VA proof, and the P.A. 18-47 benefits for PTSD, traumatic brain injury and military sexual trauma. It prints no amounts.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Greenwich.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Assessor’s Credits & Benefits page gives a veteran who is a Greenwich resident, served at least 90 days during an active period of war in the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge a property tax exemption on either real estate or a motor vehicle, on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk prior to October 1. A veteran entitled to a disability pension as determined by the Veterans Administration is eligible for the disabled veterans’ exemption, filed with the Assessor’s Office once unless the status changes. The page prints no amounts, and OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Greenwich as offering none of the municipal options; the town’s code, Chapter 12, carries no veterans’ exemption. This entry rests on the page. Under Public Act 18-47, benefits are extended to veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury or military sexual traumas as determined by the Veterans Administration; forms are in the Assessor’s Office. Members on active duty may have one passenger motor vehicle, owned or leased, exempt, on a commanding officer’s letter submitted annually by December 31.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
