Recording. The Greene County Recorder, 69 Greene Street, third floor, Xenia (937-562-5270; recording 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.), records an original or certified copy of a discharge free, returns the original with certified copies, and gives further certified copies free at any time, more than the one free copy Revised Code 317.27 requires. Discharges are kept from the public and released only to authorized parties under 317.24; see the Ohio entry on county recorders. The ID card. A veteran who records the discharge there and shows two forms of identification from the statute's list, with the recorded discharge counting as one, gets a free veteran ID card valid ten years, issued 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Recorder's description matches 317.241 and sets no discharge test of its own; the statute bars the card only for a dishonorable discharge.
