Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Veterans' Relief Fund is Grays Harbor County's programme under chapter 73.08 RCW (see the Washington entry on county veterans' assistance funds), which Public Health administers. "The Veterans' Relief Fund may be able to help with rent, utilities, food, and other needs. This is a fund of last resort and in no way can it be construed as a veteran's benefit." Who. "To apply for assistance from Grays Harbor County Veterans' Relief Fund, you must have been honorably discharged, have been a resident of Grays Harbor County for at least 6 months, and have income below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level." Bring the DD-214, proof of residence, proof of income and any shut-off or eviction notice. A denied applicant may appeal and ask for the reasons in writing. Narrower than the statute. Since chapter 146, Laws of 2024, RCW 73.08.005 defines a veteran by a qualifying discharge under RCW 73.04.005: honorable, general under honorable conditions, other than honorable with VA documentation of monetary benefits, or any characterization where the discharge was solely for sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. The county's "honorably discharged" leaves out the general and VA-accepted other than honorable discharges the statute takes; a veteran turned away on discharge alone should ask for the decision in writing and cite RCW 73.08.005. How. "All applications must be filed with local service officers at veteran support organizations": AMVETS Post 1926 and VFW Post 2455 in Montesano (360-249-3644), VFW Post 1135 in Hoquiam (360-532-0510), VFW Post 224 and American Legion Post 5 in Aberdeen, VFW Post 5564 in McCleary, VFW Post 8956 and VVA Chapter 512 in Ocean Shores, VFW Post 1948 in Elma, and American Legion Post 140 and VFW Post 3057 in Westport. The ombudsman. "Gwyn Tarrence has been selected as your Veterans Relief Fund Ombudsman", a Marine Corps veteran, commander of American Legion Post 5 and a veterans service officer at the Veterans Connections Cafe in Westport and Stafford Creek Corrections Center, "available to help you navigate the benefits the Veterans Relief Fund has to offer": 360-660-2640, [email protected]. The board. The Veterans' Advisory Board, established by Resolution 2005-65, advises the commissioners on the needs of indigent veterans and meets on the first Wednesday of March, June, September and December at 2 p.m. in the commissioners' office, 100 West Broadway, Suite 1, Montesano (the September 2, 2026 meeting was hybrid); 360-500-4069.
