The office. Every Indiana county employs a county veterans service officer (IC 10-17-1-9); the Indiana entry explains the office. Grant County's page: "We are responsible for assisting veterans, their spouses, any dependents, and survivors with information and assistance concerning veterans' benefits at the Federal and State levels", with a services list that runs from service-connected disability compensation and low-income pension benefits through survivor benefits, VA medical care, home loan guaranty, GI bill benefits, vocational rehabilitation, discharge upgrades, burial benefits, property tax abatement, remission of fees for children of disabled veterans, license plates and the Golden Hoosier passport, and ends "Remember to record your DD-214!!"
Where and who. The county page names the contact: Adam Crotzer, 401 S. Adams Street, Marion, IN 46953, 3rd Floor; 765-651-2423, fax 765-651-2422; office hours 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday to Thursday, closed Fridays. The Department of Veterans Affairs' directory (read through the Office of Court Services' October 2026 window and the Department's CVSO page) lists the same office with admin assistant April Ailes; the Commissioners' minutes of 2026 name Guiffre Kilgren as the county's Veterans Affairs Officer through the spring (with Assistant Veterans Affairs Officer Adam Crotzer from July 6, 2026) - the staff have turned over this year, so ask the office who holds the desk.
The office's year in the record. The Commissioners' minutes carry a standing "Veterans Service Office" section: the officer's extended-hours request ("Monday - Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and closed unless an emergency on Fridays") approved on March 16, 2026 amid the veteran property-tax reform; a temporary employee approved and the Department's small-county merger proposal - "We can merge with Blackford County if you and the Blackford County Commissioners are all in agreeance" - reported May 18, 2026; the assistant officer's report that "with the tax reform we have done upwards of 100 since last Wednesday" and the approved daily noon-to-1 closure for two months (July 6, 2026); and the $5,000 postcard mailing "for the new Veterans Property tax deduction", approved 2-0 on August 17, 2026.
