What it is. An Arkansas county veterans service officer is employed by the county judge and paid from the Quorum Court's budget, trained and accredited through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and partly reimbursed by the State under section 20-81-106: one dollar for every two the county spends, up to $3,600 a year, or $4,800 in a county with more than 2,500 veterans, plus $500 a quarter each for VA accreditation and for access to VA's benefits system; see the Arkansas entry on the Department and county service officers. Help with a claim is free. Grant County's site has no page for the office. Who and when. The Department of Veterans Affairs' county finder (last updated August 19, 2026) lists David Jones at "American Post, 1527 Hwy 270 East, Sheridan, AR 72150", Tuesday and Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with no phone or email. Call the County Judge's office (Judge Randy Pruitt, 101 W Center, Room 101, Sheridan, (870) 942-2551) for a number before going. Grant is in the Department's District 5, whose District Veterans Service Officer is Sue Harper in Monticello, (870) 623-6900. The budget. The 2026 budget (Ordinance 2025-23) gave Veteran Affairs (1000-0805) $6,785.00: $2,700.00 of contract labor, $500.00 for building repairs and $3,585.00 for insurance and utilities, and booked $3,900.00 of State reimbursement for the officer. After a budget committee meeting on the "Veteran Service Officer salary" (May 11, 2026), the Quorum Court passed Ordinance 2026-06 on May 19, 2026, 8 to 0: the Court "supports the veterans of Grant County and desires that they have access to the services offered by a Veteran Services Officer" and "additional funding needs to be appropriated to enhance the accessibility", so the contract labor line became $15,000.00 of part-time salary with $1,200.00 of Social Security, +$13,500.00 for the year.
