Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s tax exemptions page requires eligibility documentation with the Town Clerk by September 30 and disability rating slips by March 31, and prints the Veteran’s Exemption at $1,500 off of the assessed value of your real estate or motor vehicle for veterans who served at least 90 days during a time of war or an active duty serviceman, and the disability tiers off the assessed value of real estate or motor vehicle: $3,000 for a rating of 10 to 25 percent, $3,750 for 26 to 50, $4,500 for 51 to 75, $5,250 for 76 to 100, and $5,250 at least 10 percent and over 65. The additional veteran’s exemption, income dependent, doubles the regular exemption - $3,000 on the $1,500 basic, $6,000 to $10,500 by rating - applied February 1 through October 1. The local option veteran’s exemption is $10,000, applied in the same window. A “Motor Vehicle of a Serviceman” section exempts one vehicle registered in Connecticut for active duty military or reserves, with the application filed within 15 months of the October 1st assessment date. A “Federal Soldiers’ Civil Relief Act” section provides that personal property belonging to an active duty serviceman is not to be taxed in the town in which the property is located due to military orders. For a veteran with a 100 percent service-connected permanent and total rating the page describes the dwelling exemption of 12-81(83) and the annual OPM application due January 1 under 12-93 as amended by Public Act 25-168. OLR’s 2023 survey also recorded Granby as offering the specially adapted house option of 12-81(21)(C); the page does not mention it.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
