Georgetown Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Georgetown’s fiscal 2027 exemption sheet prints the veterans’ clauses as one range of $800.00 to a full tax exemption with no per-clause breakdown - the statutes doubled, what clause 22J at 100 per cent would produce at the bottom - naming no option, so this entry gives the statute’s and asks the assessors; its veterans’ services are the Eastern Essex District’s.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Georgetown.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Georgetown grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names David A. Bogdan the chair and Bret Moyer and Arthur MacDonald the members, with Thomas Berube, M.A.A. the Director of Assessing/Administrator and Jan Silva the Administrative Assessor, at Town Hall, 1 Library Street (978-352-5708). The office’s "Real Estate Tax Exemptions Available for FY 2027" sheet and its Exemption Guidelines for Fiscal Year 2027 print the veterans’ clauses as one line: "Disabled Veterans - (Clauses 22, 22 A-E) ... The exemption amounts range from $800.00 to a full tax exemption depending upon the disability and qualifying clause", with the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4 as the application and no per-clause amounts. $800 is the statute’s $400 doubled, what clause 22J at 100 per cent would produce at the bottom of the range; the sheets name no option and no vote was found on the town’s site, so the figures here are the statute’s and the entry asks the assessors which the town has accepted. The guidelines’ residency text asks that the veteran "must have been a resident of Massachusetts for at least one year before entering the service", the older test, where the statute now asks six months’ domicile before service or two consecutive years before filing. The town’s Veteran’s Services links go to the Eastern Essex District Department of Veterans’ Services, whose site, eessexvets.com, still answers a Cloudflare challenge that does not clear, so the district was read through the Internet Archive’s captures, the newest April 18, 2024, as in the twelfth round: the district serves Essex, Georgetown, Ipswich, Newbury, Rowley and West Newbury from the lower level of Ipswich Town Hall, 25 Green Street (978-356-6699), by appointment. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists Steven Bohn there ([email protected]) on the Georgetown row. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Eastern Essex District Department of Veterans’ Services: Steven Bohn (EOVS directory). Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
