Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Department of Veterans Services pays MTA Flint, the county's transit authority, to give enrolled veterans and spouses three free rides a month to doctor's appointments, the pharmacy, the grocery store and the farmers market, and one ride a month out of the county to a scheduled VA medical appointment, using MTA's Rides to Wellness service. The Board renewed the agreement on August 18, 2026 for up to $110,000 (RES-2026-1120), paid from the veterans millage, after $120,000 for fiscal 2026. Under it MTA aims to pick up within 45 minutes of a same-day request, or within a 30-minute window of a booked time, and MTA's no-show policy applies. Enroll by calling the department at 810-257-3068. For other VA hospital trips the department refers veterans to the Disabled American Veterans van, 810-742-9220, and the Soldiers Relief Commission can pay bus fare to a VA medical facility.
